Composer and inventor Tod Machover runs the "Opera of the Future" group at the MIT Media Lab in Cambridge, Mass. and creates instruments and robots that transform the way music is performed. His latest futuristic opus, "Death and the Powers," is a 90-minute one-act opera, with libretto by Robert Pinsky, directed by Diane Paulus. It incorporates cutting-edge robotics, and uses a technology Machover dubs "disembodied performance" that requires its star, baritone James Maddalena, to act out almost the entire program out of sight or earshot of the audience -- even while a high-tech translation of his performance appears on the stage. See more about this robotic and music combination.
DNA of Creativity: Fusing the Energies of San Diego Arts and Sciences, the San Diego Visual Arts Network is gathering information and making connections between the art and science worlds with a goal of fusing the energies of both communities to produce a series of projects. These projects will enhance the viewing public’s perception of creativity and its role in our lives. This blog will endeavor to add links of interest and provide a way for free discussions on this subject.

Thanks Thomine ... I have been keeping somewhat of an eye on Machover sinces the early ninties ... it seems that he is always making things that extend the body into machines - It is too bad that this will not make it to the west coast ... Thanks for posting this!
